About this event
The foundation of capitalist realism, that we inhabit an ‘eternal present’, is increasingly strained. A pervasive politics of despair — fuelled by the dystopian realities of the climate crisis, the afterlives of colonialism, a resurgent far-right, and COVID eschatology — also prompts questions about the nature and value of utopian thought today. Is utopianism’s totalising perspective sufficient to confront our many crises? Or does their scale and depth leave hope for little more than salvaging amongst the ruins?
We’re excited to announce the programme for this one-day conference, inviting interdisciplinary reflection from PhD students and ECRs on the tensions in utopian thought for a world in crisis.
